Whatnot’s New Commission Tiers, Explained With Real Numbers

Since September 21, 2026, your Whatnot commission depends on your last 28 days of sales and the category of each sale. Here is the full rate card and what it does to a $50 and a $200 sale.

As of October 4, 2026 · sources

What changed on September 21, 2026

Until September 20, Whatnot charged most sellers a flat 8% commission (4% on Coins & Money) plus payment processing. From September 21, 2026, the commission depends on two things: your sales tier and the category vertical of each sale. Processing did not change.

  • Your tier comes from your total sales (GMV) across all categories in a 28-day window. That total sets your tier for the next 28-day window, and the rate stays locked for the whole window. Existing sellers were placed using their sales from August 24 to September 20.
  • The vertical decides which row of the rate card applies. For live sales it is the show’s category; for marketplace sales it is the product’s category.

Thresholds: Standard is $0 to $14,999 in a 28-day window, Tier 1 starts at $15,000, Tier 2 at $35,000, Tier 3 at $50,000, Tier 4 at $100,000, Tier 5 at $250,000 and Tier 6 at $500,000. In Fashion, Other Collectibles and Other, the rate card marks the last few cells as the “lowest public rate”, so the rate stops falling there. Whatnot says a 3% rate exists only as a custom rate for the very largest sellers. Whatnot does not publish which listing categories map to each vertical; electronics most likely falls under Other, but we could not confirm that.

What each fee is charged on

  • Commission is charged on the item price after any coupon you fund (Whatnot calls it the post-coupon price). It does not include shipping or sales tax.
  • Payment processing is 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction on the total the buyer paid: item, plus buyer-paid shipping, plus buyer-paid tax. Your tier does not change it.
  • Above $1,500: in eligible categories (Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, TCG, Entertainment Cards, Sports singles but not breaks or surprise products, and since June 4, 2026, Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches), the part of an item’s price above $1,500 carries 0% commission. Whatnot describes this as a limited-time promotion that began January 14, 2026. Processing is still charged on the full amount.

Worked examples: $50 and $200 sales

We ran two sales through the same fee engine the Whatnot fee calculator uses: a $50 item with $7 buyer-paid shipping, and a $200 item with $10 shipping, both with no sales tax. “Payout” is the item price minus fees, because the buyer’s shipping buys the label. All figures in these two tables are computed, not quoted.

Other and Fashion verticals (same rates at these tiers): computed with our fee engine. No sales tax; the buyer’s shipping pays for the label.

What the numbers show (computed): on a $50.00 sale in Other, moving from Standard to Tier 3 cuts total fees from $5.95 to $4.70, a saving of $1.25. On $200.00 it is $22.39 versus $17.39, a saving of $5.00. In TCG the steps are a quarter point each, so the same $200.00 sale at Tier 3 still pays $20.89. Processing is identical in every row.

How much more you need to sell to move up

Tier 1 needs $15,000 of sales in one 28-day window, about $536 a day. Tier 3 needs $50,000, about $1,786 a day. At exactly the Tier 1 threshold in Other, the one-point drop from 8% to 7% is worth $150.00 of commission over the following window (computed); in TCG the quarter-point drop on the same $15,000 is worth $37.50. At the Tier 3 threshold in Other, the 2.5-point drop on $50,000 is worth $1,250.00. The lower rate applies in the window after you hit the number, and these dollar figures assume you sell the same amount again in that window.

Other costs that sit outside the rate card

  • Premier Shop: its 10% commission discount stacks on the new rates through October 31, 2026, and ends November 1, 2026.
  • State sales tax on fees: Whatnot deducts it in some states. Commission is taxed in DC, HI, NM and WV; the processing fee is taxed in CT (1%), HI, NM, OH, SD, TX (on 80% of the fee) and WV.
  • Seller-paid shipping: free or reduced shipping you offer, giveaway labels, and label adjustments come out of your earnings.
  • Show boosts and promotion spend, and promotional rates such as a new-seller offer, which override your tier.

To try your own numbers, pick your vertical and tier in the Whatnot fee calculator, or run one sale through every platform with the fee comparison. Every rate here is listed with its official source on the Fee Ledger.

Frequently asked questions

When did Whatnot’s tiered commission start?

September 21, 2026. Before that, most sellers paid a flat 8% commission (4% for Coins & Money) plus 2.9% + $0.30 processing.

How is my Whatnot tier decided?

Your total sales (GMV) across all categories in a 28-day window set your tier for the next 28-day window, and the rate is locked for that window. Standard is under $15,000; Tier 1 starts at $15,000 and Tier 6 at $500,000.

Does the new tier change Whatnot’s processing fee?

No. Processing is still 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction on the total the buyer paid, including shipping and tax, at every tier.

Is commission charged on shipping?

No. Commission is charged on the item price after seller-funded coupons. Shipping and tax are only in the processing base.

Is Flip Profit HQ affiliated with Whatnot?

No. Flip Profit HQ is independent and not affiliated with Whatnot. Rates are quoted from Whatnot’s help center as of October 2026; confirm current fees there before relying on them.
