How Whatnot seller fees work (as of Oct 2026)

Every Whatnot sale has two fees: a commission and a payment processing fee. They are charged on different amounts, which is why a quick “8% of the price” guess usually comes out low.

1. Commission: tiered by volume and category since September 21, 2026

Commission is charged on the item’s sold price after any seller-funded coupon. It is not charged on shipping or sales tax. On September 21, 2026 Whatnot replaced its flat 8% with a tiered rate card. Your total sales across all categories in one 28-day period set your tier for the next 28 days, and the rate on each sale depends on that sale’s category vertical (the show’s category for live sales, the product’s category for marketplace sales).

Most sellers are on the Standard tier (under $15,000 in sales per 28 days), which is 8% in every vertical except Coins & Money at 4%. Whatnot does not publish exactly which listing categories belong to each vertical; electronics most likely falls under “Other”.

2. 0% commission above $1,500 in eligible categories

Under a limited-time promotion that began January 14, 2026, the part of an item’s price above $1,500 carries 0% commission in Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, Trading Card Games, Entertainment Cards, Sports singles (not breaks or surprise products), and, since June 4, 2026, Bags & Accessories and Jewelry & Watches. A $2,000 TCG single at the Standard tier pays 8% of $1,500, or $120, instead of $160. Tick the “eligible” box in the calculator when this applies.

3. Payment processing: 2.9% + $0.30 on the whole order

Processing is charged on the total the buyer paid: item price plus buyer-paid shipping plus sales tax. So on a $50 item with $7 shipping and $4 tax, processing is 2.9% of $61 plus $0.30, or $2.07. It is still charged on the full amount when the high-value rule zeroes part of the commission.

Costs this calculator doesn’t include

  • Sales tax on fees, which Whatnot deducts in a handful of states (for example, commission in DC, HI, NM and WV).
  • Show boosts and promotion spend.
  • The Premier Shop 10% commission discount, which stacks on the new rates through October 31, 2026.
  • Promotional rates, such as a new-seller 0% offer, which override your tier.

Shipping you cover (free shipping offers, giveaway labels, label adjustments) is a real cost: put it in “Extra shipping you cover.” For a full show, including giveaways and supplies, the Flip Profit HQ sheet tracks the profit and loss per show.

Frequently asked questions

What are Whatnot’s seller fees in 2026?

Since September 21, 2026, Whatnot charges a tiered commission based on your sales in the previous 28 days and the category vertical: 8% at the Standard tier in most verticals (4% for Coins & Money), falling as low as 4–6.5% at the highest public tiers. On top of that, payment processing is 2.9% + $0.30 on the total the buyer paid, including shipping and tax.

Does Whatnot charge commission on shipping?

No. Commission is charged on the item’s sold price after seller-funded coupons. Shipping and sales tax are not included in the commission. They are, however, included in the 2.9% + $0.30 payment processing fee.

What is Whatnot’s high-value reduced commission?

In eligible categories (Comics & Anime, Toys & Hobbies, Coins & Money, TCG, Entertainment Cards, Sports singles, Bags & Accessories, Jewelry & Watches), the part of an item’s price above $1,500 carries 0% commission. It is a limited-time promotion that started January 14, 2026. Processing is still charged on the full amount.

How is my Whatnot tier decided?

Your total sales (GMV) across all categories in a 28-day period set your tier for the next 28-day period, and the rate is locked for that whole period. The Standard tier is under $15,000; Tier 1 starts at $15,000 and Tier 6 at $500,000.

Is this an official Whatnot calculator?

No. Flip Profit HQ is independent and not affiliated with Whatnot. The calculator is an estimate based on Whatnot’s published fee pages as of October 2026; always confirm current fees in Whatnot’s help center.
